Dermestid Beetles (Dermestes maculatus)
These little bugs can move! The word 'Dermestid' is Greek rooted meaning skin, thus well named. These beeltes will eat meat off any bone and in the right numbers will do it quickly, efficiently, and without damage to the bones being cleaned. National and Wildlife law enforcement, museum curators, taxidermist and many more use these natural cleansers everyday. When not contained properly you can find them also chewing on natural fibers like wool, cotton, feathers, or silk also, but will not expand off these alone. In the wild you can find them on road kill but do not often thrive on rotten or rancid meat. When the weather gets warm enough the adults will fly, too, above 80degrees. There are more than 500 species of dermestids worldwide
